Father/Son Combination to Wear Lumberjacks Jerserys
The name on the back of the jersey can sometimes mean as much to a community as the name on the front. When mentioning Muskegon professional hockey, it is a name that cannot be ignored. Kharin is written throughout the Muskegon record books. Sergei Kharin wore #16 for 5 seasons with the Muskegon Fury of the Colonial Hockey League (CoHL) and later when it became the United Hockey League (UHL). Now his son Anton dons the #16 sweater for the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the International Hockey League (IHL).

On Friday, April 10, 2009, Muskegon hockey made history as they added another chapter to 49 years of professional hockey! Sergei came out of retirement for one game to play on a line with his son. They became the first father and son to skate together in the IHL!

It took 56 seconds to make IHL history. The father-son combination was in the starting lineup in the Muskegon Lumberjacks' 6-0 victory over the Flint Generals. The 46-year-old Sergei manned the right wing and 23-year-old Anton was on left. After skating one shift, Sergei Kharin remained on the bench in uniform. He returned for the second and third periods in a sport coat behind the bench. Anton was the second star of the game with two goals and one assist.

the 2008-2009 season opened with the Muskegon Lumberjacks winning 4-3 over the Port Huron Icehawks.

Todd Robinson had a hat trick. Mike Olynyk had a fight off the opening faceoff.

Both teams wore dark jerseys that were very similar. The way to tell them apart was the helmet color,the numbers on the back of the jersey, and the socks.

Muskegon has white helmets with gold numbers on the back of the jersey and the socks were mostly white, Bloomington has black helmets with white numbers on the back of the jersey, with mostly gold socks.
